New Partnership for Climate Calculation of Car Damage Repair
Örebro (SE), August 22, 2024
CAB Group has signed an agreement with the Belgian company Eco Repair Score to calculate the environmental impact of damaged vehicle repairs in the Nordic and Baltic market.
Sustainability has become an increasingly important issue for both the insurance industry and repair shops, with more initiatives being taken to reduce climate impact. This, along with requirements to report emissions, has increased the demand for reliable calculation of the climate impact of vehicle repairs. CAB Group has therefore entered a partnership with the Belgian company Eco Repair Score, which provides standardized climate calculations for car repairs.
CAB Group provides the CABAS estimation system for repair shops and insurance companies in several markets in the Nordics and the Baltics. The system is used to calculate the time and cost of repairing vehicle damage.
Eco Repair Score creates a measure of how environmentally friendly a repair is from a lifecycle perspective (LCA), based on the contents of a repair estimate. The calculation model, which is increasingly used by industry players in the European market, considers several factors such as the repair method used, transportation, painting, whether the parts are new or used and energy consumption. The result is expressed in terms of carbon dioxide equivalents (CO2e).
Data from Eco Repair Score can be used in various sustainability reporting frameworks, including CSRD and Science-Based Targets.
Mats Wästvind, Commercial Director for the Automotive business area at CAB:
"With Eco Repair Score as a partner, we will be able to offer CO2e reports based on CABAS estimates from the beginning of next year, even on historical estimates. This will significantly facilitate our customers' sustainability work by providing reliable data on the climate impact of their operations."
Wout Van Den Abbeele, CEO of Eco Repair Score:
"We see that the Nordic countries are at the forefront when it comes to tackling sustainability issues, so we are pleased that CAB has chosen Eco Repair Score as their partner. We are confident that our joint offering, together with CAB's system solutions, will create great value for the Nordic and Baltic damage repair market."
Climate Impact - A Third Factor in Damage Calculation
The CABAS estimation system currently calculates how long it will take to repair damage and what it will cost. CAB's ambition as a next step, is to offer the possibility to compare the climate impact of different repair methods within CABAS.
Mats Wästvind again: “Delivering reports is a first step. The next step is to integrate climate calculation directly into the estimation process. This will give the repair shop the ability to choose the repair method that is best for the environment, which will be a competitive advantage."
